Chiara Van Baarle's journey with Flight Centre Travel Group began in 2021 when she took on the role of Corporate Marketing Executive in New Zealand. Right from the get-go, she became part of a small, tight-knit team in Auckland, where teamwork and shared success were central. Working alongside supportive colleagues, she quickly recognised how deeply the company’s culture of egalitarianism was embedded.

Despite challenges from the turbulence of New Zealand’s COVID-19 lockdowns, natural disasters, and border closures, Chiara and her team remained resilient. They found creative ways to stay connected, both with clients and each other, thriving in adversity and ensuring Flight Centre remained relevant to businesses needing more than just travel bookings.

In 2023, Chiara took the next step in her career, moving to London. True to the company’s values, her New Zealand colleagues didn’t just wish her well—they actively supported her transition, connecting her with the UK team. This sense of belonging continued when she joined Corporate Traveller UK as maternity cover for a Content Manager role, feeling welcomed even before she officially started.

In her new role within the Enablement team, Chiara engaged with various departments across the business. She witnessed firsthand how each one supports the other, which reinforced her belief in Corporate Traveller’s quality as a Travel Management Company. Now, as Bid Manager, she thrives in a role that blends her marketing, content creation, and organisational skills. Her collaboration with teams across the business has enriched her development and deepened her appreciation for the company’s culture of support and inclusivity.

"You have nothing to prove, only to share."

Chiara believes this sentiment aligns perfectly with Flight Centre’s values of Egalitarianism and Irreverence. By sharing skills and insights without viewing work through a hierarchical lens, Chiara feels empowered to bring her whole self to work, maintain a positive environment, and find greater fulfilment in her success.

“In a business with so many moving parts, understanding how your role supports your teammates is crucial for both daily success and long-term career growth,” says Chiara.

Chiara’s journey reflects the inclusive, close-knit culture at Flight Centre. Whether moving countries, attending conferences, or working across various UK offices, she knows she’s never alone—there’s always a team ready to support, encourage, and celebrate her achievements. At Flight Centre, the world truly feels like one big family.
