Graduate Program Coordinator, Alexandra Hahn, talks about what it takes to make your application stand out for the FCTG Graduate Program.

How to get into the graduate program

Let’s start with some tips that will help to give you an edge.

  1. Having travelled overseas gives you a huge advantage - make sure you detail where you’ve been!
  2. Show your authentic self in the video submission
  3. Keep your CV to 1-2 pages. No one likes a waffler!
  4. Tell your referees you’ve given us their details once you have submitted your application – it’s polite to notify so they are ready when we call and shows you’ve covered your bases
  5. Do your background research - we want you to be sure we’re the right fit for you as much as you’re the right fit for us

Timing

We have two intakes a year:

  1. January - Application dates open 01 July and close 30 Nov
  2. July - Application dates open 01 Feb and close 31 May

One good piece of advice is to not rush your video submission - it doesn’t need to be movie quality, but first impressions count!

If you apply early enough, you might score a spot on the program giving you more time to go travelling after you graduate and before you start with us.

What type of grads are you looking for?

We look for driven, adaptable and innovative future business leaders. You’re passionate about travel and want to deliver amazing experiences for others. We look for team players that can also work autonomously, and networking skills won’t go amiss!

How can I stand out?

  1. Smile and show off your personality, we look for grads who can share a bit about themselves with us. Been in the Guinness World Records? Can you play the violin with your feet? Were you the first to find all the Pokemon!? We want to know.
  2. Think outside the box for your video submission, there are no limitations!
  3. On your CV, highlight your extracurricular activities and hobbies that demonstrate your leadership potential.

What are the attributes of successful candidates?

  • They do their research! To be a successful grad you should prepare well for your assessment day, including practicing some behavioural interview questions.
  • They are keen and grasp our retail businesses quickly. Knowing how these businesses operate from the ground up (including knowledge of e-commerce) is essential before stepping into roles that support our retail travel industry.
