A
t Flight Centre Travel Group, we understand that mental health is a crucial component of overall well-being. Our commitment to supporting our employees' mental health is reflected in a variety of initiatives and resources designed to help manage stress, prevent burnout, and promote a healthy work-life balance. Here’s a closer look at how we’re making mental health a priority.
World Mental Health Day Initiatives
World Mental Health Day on October 10, 2024, is a significant day for us, and this year, we’re extending the celebration to an entire week. From October 7th to October 11th, we’re hosting a series of activities aimed at raising awareness and providing resources for mental health in the workplace. Employees are encouraged to make a personal promise to care for their mental health, share their commitments on a kudo board, and participate in morning teas, coffee and webinars. These activities not only foster a supportive community but also offer practical tools for mental well-being.
Workshops and Training Programs
We offer a range of workshops and training programs to equip our employees with the skills they need to support their own mental health and that of their colleagues. Our "Leading Forward" workshop is designed for leaders and future leaders, focusing on recognizing and responding to mental health issues within their teams. Additionally, our "Healthy Teams" program provides monthly wellness topics and activities, from stress management to nutrition, helping teams stay connected and informed.
Accessible Mental Health Resources
Accessibility is key when it comes to mental health resources. Our employees can easily access a wealth of information through our SharePoint site, including our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provided by Converge International. This program offers free counseling services and a variety of tools to help employees manage their mental health. We also have a comprehensive mental health toolbox available online, featuring resources on gratitude, kindness, and building positive relationships.
Preventative Strategies
Preventing burnout and managing stress are central to our mental health strategy. We offer on-demand fitness classes, including HIIT, Pilates, and yoga, as well as "deskercise" stretches and relaxation techniques. Our "Hour of Power" initiative allows employees to dedicate one hour per week during their shift to activities that enhance their mental, physical, or emotional well-being. This could be anything from exercising to meditating or even volunteering.
Employee Feedback and Continuous Improvement
We take employee feedback seriously and use it to shape our mental health resources. For instance, feedback about work-life balance challenges led to the introduction of the "Hour of Power" program. We also conduct regular surveys and engage with employees to ensure our initiatives meet their needs and help reduce the stigma around mental health.
Supporting Remote and Hybrid Workers
Our mental health resources are designed to support all employees, regardless of their location. We offer virtual programs and workshops to ensure that remote and hybrid workers have the same access to mental health support as those in our offices. This includes virtual fitness classes, online mental health courses, and remote participation in our "Healthy Teams" program.
